Mission and Values
Our mission, vision and values
Our mission is to realise the potential of New Zealand's vast and unique iron sands resource by developing a world-class, profitable and responsible iron sands export company. Our vision is to be the leading global iron sands company by 2025.
We are committed to offshore iron ore mining because it is a tried and tested economical and environmentally sensitive approach, without the detrimental effects on communities and the environment that traditional onshore operations can bring.
The people of Taranaki, and wider New Zealand, are passionately committed to protecting our unique environment - both land and sea.
We share those values. Our operations are world class and sustainably developed. We have invested tens of millions in environmental, social, scientific and engineering research and development to ensure our application meets the stringent resource requirements for New Zealand's Exclusive Economic Zone.
However, while low-impact offshore seabed mining is well-established elsewhere in the world, it is a new concept for New Zealand. We welcome the opportunity to engage with communities, iwi, hapu and others both throughout the resource consent process and in long-term relationships to address concerns and ensure the maximum benefits for Taranaki.
We are committed to values of:
- Environmental responsibility
- Relationships that are respectful and mutually beneficial
Our health and safety policy
The highest standards of health and safety are fundamental to everything we do.
Working safely is one of our core values and a condition of employment for all our staff. Everyone in our business is expected to comply with or exceed all relevant legislation, standards and codes of practice.
However, we believe health and safety is not just about compliance, it's about embedding a strong health and safety culture across the business. We empower our employees to 'make it safe' - or suspend activities until the situation is made safe.
We achieve this culture through visible leadership. Our managers are accountable for safety performances and ensuring staff are properly trained and equipped to safely carry out all aspects of their work.
Our goal in this is to ensure all our people are involved and engaged in this process - and actively aware of the importance of taking responsibility for their personal safety and that of their colleagues.
We monitor and continuously improve health and safety performance at all levels by undertaking reviews to measure progress and compliance with this policy.
We also systematically identify, assess and control workplace hazards and record, report, investigate and learn from incidents and near misses.
We also actively work with any injured or ill employees to support their safe return to work.
